so you think you can steam scholarship contest

So You Think You Can STEAM is a scholarship competition at Lincoln Children’s Museum centered around a STEAM-based project for students in grades 4 - 12. There are two separate rounds, plus an application phase. Those selected from the applications will present their projects at Lincoln Children’s Museum on Sunday, June 2. Winners from round 1 will be awarded up to $200 each to help fund additional elements of their project and will be paired with a mentor in their field to guide them on the project. The second round will occur on June 30, and winner(s) will be awarded scholarships (awarded at judge’s discretion) from LI-Cor Biosciences, Lincoln Electric System, University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering, and Bio Nebraska Life Sciences.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS organizers needed

Pyrtle's after school clubs offer students a chance to make new friends and learn skills outside of what is offered in school curriculum. They're designed for small group, multi-age learning and they're so much fun.

We are looking for a single volunteer or small group to plan and implement this program so that it can continue in the 2019-20 school year. The steps to do this role are well documented by the former leader to help you get started. Very few LPS schools offer After School Clubs - it's part of what makes Pyrtle special and we really hope to see it continue.

The Bike Rodeo is a great family event and partnership between Pyrtle K-Kids and Capital City Kiwanis Club. Featuring walking tacos + a drink for only $5.

If a Bike Rodeo is new to you...it's a super fun way for kiddos to learn about and practice safe bicycling. It's all about having fun AND being safe. Bring your bike + helmet and ride your way through 5 skills stations:

  • Stopping on a spot
  • Slow balance
  • Rock dodge
  • Figure 8
  • Weave through obstacles

We fed about 150 people last year - and hope to serve even more this year. K-Kids donates the proceeds to a charity they will select.

Pyrtle staff will handle registration and serving, but we need food donations to make it successful. Food sign ups will be published on Konstella in early April.

Thanks for your awesome support!
